Last week, I learned a valuable lesson: I can write a blog post in 20 minutes. When I am laser-focused and intentional.
This week, I learned another valuable lesson: you can’t rush things. Because when you rush, mistakes are made. And you open yourself up to letting people down – sometimes in big ways that non-rushed you would never do.
So essentially, I’ve finally learned the difference between being “quick” and being “in a rush.”
I am naturally quick at many tasks – especially related to the projects my clients hire me for – and sometimes I forget that about myself. It’s when I feel like I have a lot of things on my plate that I start to rush. Maybe you can relate?
When I feel rushed like this, I choke up. The content-generator that is usually my brain simply breaks down.
I’m in the process of launching an amazing new product (stay tuned!) and that’s where a lot of my energy is going right now. One of my clients who is currently going through her own launch isn’t generating any new blog content between now and the end of the launch. She’s still sending her weekly e-zine, but no new blogs.
When I heard her say this, my heart leapt up into my throat. I thought to myself, I could never do that. I am so engrained with my weekly blogging habit that I don’t think I can let it go. It’s a habit I’m proud of!
Then I think about my business coach, who is also in the midst of a launch, and who is a staunch advocate of the 80/20 rule. What my client is doing is what my coach would call “The 20.” Knowing that she wouldn’t have the time or the opportunity to write blogs while she traveled to Africa during the summer, she reached out to some of her colleagues and asked them to write guest posts for her blog and e-zine.
So here are two ladies I greatly admire, with 2 brilliant solutions to the problem of “The 20.”
- Don’t write.
- Get someone else to write.
And here I am, banging my head against a wall, because I feel tapped out.
My coach has two words for that – STOP IT! LOL
Am I going to quit writing? No, not at all. Instead I offer a third solution: I’m going to repurpose some of my content. Watch for some fresh takes on some of my favourite things over the next few weeks!
OH – by the way – this blog also took 20 minutes to write. And not because I’m in a rush, but because I set my timer for 20 minutes so I could be intentional and focused about the fact I wanted to be a little vulnerable for you today. 🙂
